DOMINICK VANDERLIP
Born in 1997 in Lower Manhattan, Vanderlip moved to Los Angeles, with his parents when he was 5 years old. His painting practice began at a young age with the encouragement of his parents and grandmother. His ceramic endeavors began when he attended Montana State University, Bozeman. He currently spends half the year working as a fishing/hunting guide in Wyoming and creates prolifically in both wilderness and urban environments. Vanderlip is part of a young artist collective called Stone Age, that regularly shows across Los Angeles.
“I’ve been using the dog in my paintings for about 6 years now. I’ve always lived with dogs and being an only child they were like siblings. I am not religious or anything like that but the dog is like a play on god for me too. I’ve found over time that these dogs are taking place of people (I don’t feel I need to paint people there are to many paintings of people) eventually they reflected my own emotions pertaining to my environment. Usually moments of frustration and sadness while also a feeling of triumph.” - Dominick Vanderlip
